3 Easy and Delicious Super Bowl Snacks

· ·

It’s that time of year again…SUPER BOWL!!! And if you’re like me, you watch the game to be a part of the community, see an occasional funny commercial, and most importantly: to eat the snacks!

This year is extra special in our household because Kyle is a Tampa Bay Bucs fan 🙂 Go Bucs!

Here are 3 very easy and mouth-watering snacks to make for the game this year! Be sure to let me know in the comments what your favorite Super Bowl snack is and which team you’re rooting for.

Puppy Chow:

This is a fun recipe to make for the Super Bowl (or any holiday) because you can customize the colors for your team or holiday. I went with red, orange, and brown (pewter) this year for the Bucs.

Prep: 20 minutes Cook: 0 minutes Total: 20 minutes

Yields: Enough for 2-4 people

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups Crispix or Chex, (divided into 2 sets of 3 cups if making two colors, 3 sets of 2 cups if making 3 colors)
  • 4 oz. white chocolate chips, (per color needing food dye, so I used 8 oz. of white chocolate total)
  • 4 oz. milk chocolate chips, (for brown puppy chow)
  • 1/3 cup brownie mix (for brown puppy chow)
  • 1/3 cup white cake mix per color of puppy chow needing food dye, (1/3 cup for orange, 1/3 cup for red)
  • Colored food dye
  • M&Ms

Instructions:

1.) Divide the 6 cups of Crispix into two or three equal parts depending on how many colors you’re making. Once divided, pour Crispix into gallon sized Ziploc bags.

2.) Place white chocolate and milk chocolate chips in separate microwavable bowls and heat until melted in 30 second increments, stirring in between.

3.) Once melted, add food dye to each bowl of melted white chocolate (so for red and orange, I had 2 bowls of melted white chocolate – I added red drops to one bowl, red and yellow drops to the other). Stir chocolate and dye together until you get the shade of color desired.

4.) Pour all melted chocolate into the Ziploc bags of Crispix (one bowl of chocolate per bag of Crispix). Close bags and shake until each bag of Crispix is covered with melted chocolate.

5.) Pour brownie mix into Ziploc bag with melted milk chocolate. Close bag completely and shake to coat entirely.

6.) In separate bowls, add white cake mix and mix with food coloring. Stir until you get the shade of color desired.

7.) Pour colored white cake mix into Ziploc bags according to the color. Close bag completely and shake to coat entirely.

8.) Lay out a long piece of tin foil or parchment paper. Pour all bags of puppy chow onto foil or paper and spread evenly to dry.

9.) Once dry, break up any clumps and mix together in a bowl or clean gallon Ziploc bag. Stir or shake in colored M&Ms according to your color scheme.

Honey BBQ Meatballs:

This recipe has 4 steps and cooks in the crockpot – can it get any easier than that?! You can serve these on their own and use toothpicks to pick each meatball up to eat or you can serve on top of pasta, in a sandwich roll… Get creative!

Prep: 5 minutes Cook: 1 – 2 hours Total: 1 hour 5 minutes or 2 hours 5 minutes (depending on your crockpot setting)

Yields: 32 meatballs

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. frozen meatballs
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup grape jelly
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • Freshly chopped parsley

Instructions:

1.) Whisk BBQ sauce, jelly, and honey together in a medium sized bowl.

2.) Place meatballs in the crockpot and pour BBQ sauce mixture on top. Stir until meatballs are completely coated in sauce.

3.) Cook either on high for 1 hour or low for 2 hours, stirring every ~15-20 minutes to keep meatballs coated.

4.) Once removed from the crockpot, sprinkle with fresh parsley. Serve warm.

Pretzel Bites: (2 versions: Salted Pretzel Bites with Cheese Dipping Sauce and Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Bites with Cream Cheese Frosting)

This recipe is versatile because you can customize what dipping sauce to make. I’m thinking a honey mustard sauce would be a delicious option for the salted pretzel bites… If you are interested in making both versions, I suggest dividing the dough in half once you’re ready to sprinkle with either the coarse sea salt or cinnamon sugar so you make about ~40-50 bites for each flavor.

Salted Pretzel Bites with Cheese Dipping Sauce:

Prep: 2 hours Cook: 15 minutes Total: 2 hours 15 minutes

Yields: 80 – 100 pretzel bites

Ingredients:

Salted Pretzel Bites:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 T brown sugar
  • 1 package (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 6 T unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 T vegetable oil
  • 3 quarts water
  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1 T cold water
  • Coarse sea salt

Cheese Sauce:

  • 1/2 T butter
  • 1/2 T all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 4 oz shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions:

1.) Combine warm water, brown sugar, yeast, and melted butter in a medium large bowl.

2.) Mix using a stand mixer with the dough hook attachment until well combined and let sit for 4-5 minutes.

3.) Add salt and flour to the bowl and continue mixing until well combined. If your dough is too wet and sticky, add 1 T of extra flour and continue adding until it is no longer wet.

4.) Remove dough from bowl and knead on a flat surface into a ball.

5.) With the dough still on the flat surface, pour the vegetable oil into the bowl.

6.) Place dough in the bowl and coat in the oil. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and leave for 1 hour to rise.

7.) In a large pot or essential pan, add water and bring to a boil. Add the baking soda to the boiling water in small increments (I add by the spoonful) to prevent water from boiling over.

8.) Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

9.) Remove dough from bowl and divide into 8-10 equal pieces. Roll each into a snake shape and break off the dough into one-inch pieces. (Dough pieces will enlarge in the boiling water so make sure they are no larger than 1″).

10.) Drop dough pieces into boiling water and let sit for 30-45 seconds, and remove with a slotted spoon.

11.) Once removed, place on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray.

12.) In a small bowl, beat egg together with 1 T cold water. Using a brush or paper towel, coat or dab each pretzel bite with the egg mixtures. Then sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

13.) Bake for 15 minutes and let cool before serving.

14.) While the pretzel bites are baking, make the cheese dipping sauce. Melt butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the flour and cook for 30 seconds. Then, add milk and stir until thick. Remove from heat and add shredded cheese, stirring until all cheese is melted and the ingredients are well combined. Serve warm!

Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Bites with Cream Cheese Frosting:

Prep: 2 hours Cook: 15 minutes Total: 2 hours 15 minutes

Yields: 80 – 100 pretzel bites

Ingredients:

Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Bites:

Pretzel Bites:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 T brown sugar
  • 1 package (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 6 T unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 T vegetable oil
  • 3 quarts water
  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1 T cold water
  • 2 T cinnamon
  • 2 T white sugar

Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 2-3 T cream cheese
  • 1 T confectioners sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • Splash of milk

Instructions:

*Follow steps 1-12 for Pretzel Bites with Cheese Dipping Sauce but do not sprinkle with salt! Instead sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.

13.) Once coated with cinnamon sugar, bake for 15 minutes and let cool before serving.

14.) While pretzels are baking, make the cream cheese frosting. Add cream cheese to a bowl and soften in microwave for ~20 seconds. Immediately add the confectioners sugar, vanilla, and milk. Stir well to combine. Add more sugar if frosting is thin. Serve warm!
